There is also a super ability for every captain, such as growing giant (Mario and Luigi), barricading themselves from others (Waluigi), shrinking players to make them slower (Bowser Jr.) and temporarily removing players from the field (Peach and Diddy Kong). The items are fairly balanced, with the Chain Chomp and Star mainly only given to the losing team.Striker Times is a nice spin on real life sports news, as each one feels fun to read whether you win or lose.As with Diddy Kong, Toad’s deke can allow him to jump, and you can jump over the goalie and score a goal if timed right. Toad and Boo are Playmaker characters, which means they're fast and can pass the ball with ease, but they can't defend all that great and need to be up-close to make goals without special shots.As with Daisy and Waluigi, his deke allows him to teleport, which can lead to a goal if done correctly. His special shot, the Shocker, is also great as it will stun Kritter long enough to allow him to score, but it might backfire if the ball is charged too much. Dry Bones is a Defensive character, so while his shooting and passing are very poor, he makes up for it with great speed and can stop the opponents from shooting.Birdo and Monty Mole are Power characters that can pierce through the goalie if they have the right angle and are really good at defending their side on the field, but they are very slow and have weak passing.Hammer Bro is an Offensive character who, while he has low speed and can't defend well, can give you a sure goal with his Hammer Throw.Koopa Troopa and Shy Guy are well-balanced characters.Rather than your team consisting of the 3 same sidekicks, you now get to choose who your partners are, each with their own strengths, weaknesses and special shots.Every captain and sidekick has their own theme song for when they are introduced as the home team or score a goal, with the most memorable tracks being Wario's polka theme, Waluigi's bluegrass theme, (both of which are funny) and Luigi's flamenco theme (which is cool).
For fans of Super Mario Strikers, all the courses from that game have been ported over to this game. Good stage selection, such as Galactic Stadium, Crystal Canyon (despite the infamous laser that can disintegrate captains and sidekicks), The Dump and The Wastelands.Great selection of characters this time around, with Bowser Jr, Diddy Kong and even Petey Piranha appearing as unlockable characters.Instead of just using a regular soccer ball, this game uses a metal ball that starts weak, but with every pass and shot taken, gets more powerful.The graphics look great for 2007 standards.
